Terminal Value

Run an airline. Answer for it.

Every empty seat flies anyway. Fill them, or explain why not.

You have $250 million, five leased regional jets and a board that wants results every thirteen weeks. Pick a hub. Open routes where the demand really is. Put the right aircraft on them, at the right frequency and at a fare the market will bear. Then watch rivals notice, respond, and take share you never get back.

Nothing happens in real time. Advance a week or a whole quarter, and take as long as you like over any decision.

  • 12hubs with genuinely different economics

The catch

Every easy win comes with a bill.

Routes are not independent. Passengers connecting over your hub mean that choosing markets becomes designing a network. A feeder that loses money by itself can pay for itself twice over somewhere else.

The premium cabin has a right answer for each route, and it moves with the market. Fitting the most business seats is not it.

The economy runs on a slow cycle you cannot time. A downturn changes the shape of demand, not only its size.

A fare rise, in slow motion

  1. Week 0 You raise the fare. Revenue per passenger jumps. It looks free.
  2. Weeks later A rival notices. It starts taking share on the route.
  3. Months later You lower the fare again. The load factor has told you something is wrong.
  4. Forever The share does not come back. The fare change was temporary. The loss was not.

Twelve hubs

New York is brutal. Dallas forgives.

Where you start changes the whole game: costs, competition, and how much room you get to be wrong. Roughly easiest to hardest, as we have found them in testing:

  1. DFW
  2. DEN
  3. ORD
  4. ATL
  5. MEX
  6. LAX
  7. YYZ
  8. JFK
  9. HKG
  10. PVG
  11. CDG
  12. LHR

Ten years to build something that lasts, or the board finds someone else.

No ads. No timers. No account. One airline.
